Albian Heavy Synthetic (AHS) is a partially upgraded dilbit produced from the Scotford Upgrader. The Scotford Upgrader is part of the Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP), a joint venture between Shell Canada Energy (operator and 10% owner), Chevron Canada Limited (20%) and Canadian Natural Resources Limited (70%). AHS is a heavy crude oil, but due to partial upgrading, contains lower sulphur and TAN than unprocessed dilbits and synbits.

Albian Heavy Synthetic saw marginally reduced density, with elevated pentanes and hexanes, for the January sample. Simulated distillation results showed a smaller naphtha and larger residue.
